BBC NEWS | What high-definition will do to DVDs

Turns out that high-definition video creates some interesting problems –

The restoration of the older Star Wars episodes revealed some interesting items too. There are scans of a corridor [on the Death Star] and fairly plainly in one of those shots, there is a file cabinet stuck behind one of the doorways.

Article on DMXZone re: free serial numbers

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

[link] We get lots of mails asking us for Dreamweaver serial numbers. We ask that instead you fill in this form or call USA 800-343-3325, which is free – as we guess that people asking us for serial numbers prefer not to spend any money at all… That’s the Macromedia piracy hotline. Heh.

    Miscellany:
  1. Oddly enough, the top Google result for this number is farmequipmentcenter.com. They could be using a regional 800 number. With dealers from Illinois to Alberta, it could cover a sizable chunk of the continent.
  2. Does that mask the nationwide 800 number? Makes me wonder how many diligent, midwestern Macromedia customers have tried to report piracy, only to end up the proud owner of a John Deere combine.
  3. This posting marks my first use of the [q] tag (many thanks to Dan Cederholm’s book). It’s supposed to handle nested quotations for you, at least in theory [sighs]. Too bad it doesn’t use curly quotes.
  4. Bill Gates would like the combine with racing stripes, if only he were a redneck.
  5. But why would he be reporting piracy to Macromedia? Perhaps he was searching for other companies with the same 800 number as the hotline. Perhaps his wealth has placed him among the super-bored, and driven him to a non-deterministic lifestyle. And perhaps (bear with me) he’s having a midlife crisis and needs to prove his ‘leetness … routing the call through an exchange in Nebraska, his confidence already boosted by a daring escape from the PBX.
  6. Yes, I know it’s spelled 1337. They had it in my grade-school spelling book — AdV3NtUr3$ 1n 5P311iN6.
  7. [EDIT] R3dn3©K h4X0Rz … lolol
  8. [ED] The second result as of today is for the DMXZone post.
